The 68th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology
President: Michiaki Unno
Department of Surgery,
Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine

Hello, I am Michiaki Unno from Department of Surgery, Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine. It is a great honor to be appointed as the president of the 68th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology at JDDW 2026.

JDDW is one of the largest conferences in Japan, bringing together physicians from various specialties, including internal medicine, surgery, radiology, and pathology, gather to discuss various issues related to gastroenterology.

Gastroenterology has made significant advancements in recent years, including the development of new diagnostic methods, novel drug treatments, and improvements in surgical outcomes. While internal medicine is performing more invasive treatments such as endoscopic therapy, surgery has seen the spread of minimally invasive surgeries represented by robotic surgery. Despite their overlap, the two fields should work together, not compete.

The conference theme will be "Building Gastroenterology Together" to break down the barriers between departments such as internal medicine and surgery. We look forward to seeing you at the JDDW 2026 conference.
