Recent progress of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in HBP fields is remarkable. Laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery has been emerging even in highly complicated procedures such as pancreatoduodenectomy and major liver resection in HBP fields. Though magnified view of laparoscopic surgery is useful for HBP-surgery, there were some disadvantages including inflexible devices and unstable intraoperative views. Robotic surgery overcame these problems providing stable 3D views, articulating instruments, and motion scaling. These advances have a beneficial impact on MIS in difficult HBP surgeries. However, the operative procedures for MIS in HBP fields are on the way of developing. Thus, we should keep exploring the better technique. The progress of MIS in HBP fields will give the opportunity of early administration of adjuvant therapy and it may lead to improvement of patients’ prognoses. In this session, four leading experts give presentations about latest MIS in the HBP fields: laparoscopic/robotic liver resection, pancreatectomy and living donor hepatectomy. We will learn wonderful techniques and discuss the optimal procedures for MIS in HBP surgery.
