Dr. Robert S. Bresalier is currently Professor of Medicine (previous Chairman) in the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at M D Anderson Cancer Center, and holds the Resoft Distinguished Professorship in Gastrointestinal Oncology.

Dr. Bresalier is a leading researcher in gastrointestinal tumor biology, the role of glycoproteins and carbohydrate binding proteins in tumor progression and metastasis, and their role as tumor-specific markers. He also directs several longstanding National Institutes of Health funded research programs in cancer screening, early detection, and prevention. He has led several pivotal national and international chemoprevention trials for prevention of colorectal neoplasia.

He is member of the National Steering Committee of the Prostate, Lung, Colon, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Project, and an investigator of the Early Detection Research Network. He has been an associate editor and a member of the editorial board of numerous journals, and is author and editor of over 300 articles, chapters and reviews in the field of gastroenterology and gastrointestinal oncology.

A founding member of the Oncology Section of the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA), he has chaired numerous Digestive Disease Week committees, and is past Chairman of the Oncology section of the AGA.
