Chairperson H. Miwa Department of Upper Gastroenterology, Hyogo College of Medicine
  H. Suzuki Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Internal Medicine, Keio University School of Medicine
Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a gastroduodenal disorder defined as the presence of epigastric pain or burning, postprandial fullness, or early satiation in the absence of underlying organic diseases. In Japan, although FD had been treated by antisecretory agents, prokinetics, and gastroprotective agents etc. under the broad insurance name as chronic gastritis for more than 20 years, the novel insurance name of FD has just established in 2013. While Rome III consensus released in 2006 would be expectedly revised as Rome IV in 2016, Japanese Society of Gastroenterology (JSGE) has just released a practical guideline which placed importance in domestic characteristics such as high prevalence of H. pylori infection and easy access for esophagogastroduodenoscopy. In this international session, novel clinical and experimental topics that could inject a new perspective in the daily practice of FD are expected from the entire world.
